Let's install the first five products before November 23 so that I can upload and tag images. Let me configure and test each product before going any further with the next product. A complete backup should be made before and after each product is installed and tested. 6. collective.recipe.backup (2.15, since I am no longer able to backup the site using tar) After that (next year), these products need to be installed (in order of importance, versions are up to date as of November 16, 2013): 7. Hotfix: http://plone.org/products/plone/security/advisories/20131210-preannounce 8. collective.simplesocial (1.8) 9. collective.googleanalytics (1.4.1) 10. Products.EasyNewsletter (2.6.12) 11. facebook.comments (Suresh installed on artgoespostal.com) 12. collective.facebook.portlets (1.0b2, depends on collective.facebook.accounts 1.0b4, Suresh installed on artgoespostal.com) 13. collective.recaptcha (1.1.3, Suresh installed on artgoespostal.com for use in PloneFormGen forms) 14. quintagroup.plonegooglesitemaps (1.8.2) 15. collective.plonetruegallery (3.3.2, for displaying images in gallery format) After these, we will want to explore several other products (if they work on Plone 4.x): 16. plone.contentratings 17. contentlicensing 18. mailtoplone 19. collective.facebooklogin (or something like it) 20. Web and Mobile (or something like it) 21. Press Room 22. wildcard.foldercontents (1.2.4 we need a way of ordering folder contents, essential for previousnext, though I should be able to obviate this by adding images sequentially).

Have upgraded to 4.3.2.

Can you give it a once over?

I have to he'd out of the office for a few hours. I'll check this when I get back.

1. Plone 4.3.2 (I tried using buildout, but nothing happened).

I can add images just fine. Otherwise, all looks good. I deleted #1 from the list above (the working list) and moved it down here because it's done...

Have installed 2, 3, 4, 5.

2. collective.uploadify (1.1).

This (or one of the other products) converted all images to private state. I have changed them back. None of the links in the Upload tab actually work (Upload Files or Clear Cueue). There is no documentation on the use of the product. So I deactivated it. Please remove it completely from Zope if you can.

3. collective.imagetags (1.5, to tag people in images)

It all appears to work correctly except I cannot get the popup window to appear so that I can actually add a tag to an image. I've tried different configurations in the control panel (it is now on the default). I don't have a windows computer to test this on (it has not been tested on Mac browsers, though it should make no difference on Firefox and Chrome, which I tried). Can you try to tag an image from your computer?

4. unweb.watermark (0.3, we did this on AGP and it didn't work properly, could have been AGP)

In the Watermark Settings control panel, I choose file (an image to watermark other images with) but when I save the setting it does not save but instead reverts back to no file selected. Thus no new images that I add to the site are watermarked. I've tried several types of images (png, jpg) and none are saved.

As I remember, when we installed unweb.watermark to AGP, the watermark image was repeated across the entire photo, hiding it. In this case, I can't even get a watermark image to save to the settings.

5. collective.blog.star (1.2.1, for archive and tag cloud portlets, we'll probably have to modify its various products to include images as supported a blog type, as page and file are now)

I am happy to report that this one works, mostly. We do need to customize the product(s) so that the image content type is included (currently only pages and files are, we could replace files with images). But it works, mostly. Testing it with pages, here's what I get on the parts of the product that I want to use for this site:

a. monthly archive: this is a portlet which will show by month the contents of the site (images, by publishing date, hopefully by thumbnail_view). Currently is shows only pages by blog_view. The problem is that it only shows 2 legacy pages (Success and Progress) when there are a total of 19 legacy pages on the site (I have added one new one, which showed up in November, but for some reason I can't explain now does not, I even added another page, and it does not appear either). I don't know why this is, but it's probably a cache issue. If I can hide those two pages (should be easy), then this will work fine once we have replaced file with the image content type as the two content types supported. (I can use pages to keep an actual blog of the site, and they would be visible only to me as they would not be published.)

b. tag cloud: This works much better than the tag cloud we have on AGP. It works as advertised!

c. The blog_view on a folder does not display the contents of the folder in any rational manner (certainly not in any date order). See ../meta-notes.

[Addendum to a: several hours later it may not be a cache issue. The four pages I added to ../meta-notes still do not appear. Hopefully I can get images to appear because that's what the archive will primarily be used for.]

To summarize, Plone 4.3.2 works well, and I think I have a copy of that on a backup hard drive. You installed 4 products at once, some of which don't work, there are some broken functions, and it may be hard to tell what is causing what. Uploadify needs to be taken off the server completely, and I'm not necessarily committed to keeping image tags or watermarks if either breaks the rest of the site. It would be nice if you could get them to work, and work with legacy data, but if you can't then we need to deactivate and uninstall them as well. blog.star is working mostly as advertised but we have to get it to work for images.

Bottom line, try to get blog.star to work for images and fix issue #11. Then we can tell where to go from there, an option being to revert to Plone 4.3.2 and then add blog.star and fix that.

PIL was not working correctly because it does not work with new versions of the jpeg libraries on Mac. Had to install an older version (6b) of jpeg and reinstall PIL. This was causing the problems on #11. Can you see if this has fixed some of the other problems?

I will check this in the AM (it's late here).

Uploadify is gone, thanks. Watermarks are gone, thanks. I hope both are completely uninstalled. Imagetags still do not work (even when I turn off blocking of popup windows in my browser) so I deactivated it. Please uninstall it completely.

Let's see if we can get blog.star to work for images (5 above).

Imagetags gone. Anything I need to do for blog.star?
Added by Marshall Mayer on Nov 23, 2013 08:27 AM
blog.star now treats pages and files as blog entries. Thus they end up in portlets such as archive. What we need to do is make images as blog entries. Perhaps replace files with images? (I do want pages to remain blog entries.)

Images added to blog types.

This function now works, thanks. But the software was designed to aggregate images (pages) into the archive portlet only when the images (pages) are in the folder where the portlet is generated from.

That's fine, but I need more. What I want is a customization which aggregates images found in any location so that they show up on a portlet that is generated on the front page. (it's working now, somewhat, because 3 images are uploaded at the root of the site, but there are at least 20 more images that should be listed in the archives).

We'll also need to change the view that results when you click on a month in Archive to the folder_summary_view (it's currently a custom view that comes with the product). The result should look something like the front page. If it's possible, we should title the page "Notes taken during [month], [year]" (which may necessitate our own custom view of this function).

I think we want to install collective.vaporization to use in addition to the current tag cloud (included in blog.star). it does some interesting stuff that could be quite useful when the site has a ton of photos (as it someday will). We use it on artgoespostal.com so it should work here as well.

do not worry about items 6 through 22 now. Let's finish up 1-5 before May 23rd (see notes above).

I'll resolve this issue. Other products to install will get their own issue.
