Most dollar stores do make money, off of the failure of the capitalist economy to actually pay people. Dollar Tree also owns Family Dollar. They both focus on an extremely cash-strapped demographic, with a household income less than $35,000, and reliant on government assistance. It's one of the fastest-growing market segments, especially in rural America.
