It doesn't matter what you call them—c-stores, dollar stores, gas stations—it's incredible how little fresh food you can buy in the areas that grow most of our food. Farmer's markets are great, but are seasonal and only work in areas with enough population to support them (i. e., not rural areas). This is a very recent development. Just another example how rich people (chain stores, agribusiness) extract profit from rural areas to the detriment of people who still live and work there.
